Updates and corrects Figure 4 of the original paper “Optimal Expectations and Limited Medical Testing: Evidence from Huntington Disease”, Oster, Shoulson, and Dorsey, American Economic Review 2013, 103(2): 804–30. Subsequent to the publication of the paper it became possible to access genetic testing data from the sample which we used for our analysis. Calculating with updated data changes the results in the figure. There was an error in the construction of Figure 4, in which the baseline probability of HD to address changes as people age was updated for the corrigendum such that less overoptimism at low symptom levels is demonstrated, although according to the authors it continues to show evidence of overoptimism as individuals develop symptoms of HD.
